Agriculture Minister Gerasim Alaverdyan's resignation has raised doubts over whether it was related to the unprecedented surge in retail egg prices in the Armenian market, according to Armenian News Network.
At a briefing in parliament, the head of the Standing Committee on Social Affairs of the National Assembly of Armenia, Hakob Hakobyan, said that it is unlikely that the reason of Mr Alaverdyan's resignation be the increase of egg prices.

According to the report, the affected population consists of feral pigs in a forest, both in Lori. Both outbreaks occured on 30 August. In the first outbreak, 26 cases were identified, out of which 19 deaths occured and seven were destroyed.

Sergey Stepanian, chairman of the Union of Armenian Poultry Farmers, has complained of unequal conditions set for importers of chicken meat and local producers, reports ARKA.
Speaking at a news conference, he said he knows that imported chicken meat goes through customs clearing at a price of 350 Drams per kilo, which he said creates unequal conditions for local producers.
