Australia - More lamb for Japan

14 Jul 2012

Australian lamb (867 tonnes swt) and mutton (200 tonnes swt) shipments to Japan bounced back during June, increasing 59% and 128% year-on-year, respectively.

While chilled lamb volumes were relatively steady (up 3% on last year, to 477 tonnes swt), frozen lamb exports increased to 391 tonnes swt, up from only 82 tonnes swt in June 2011.

Increased supplies from Australia, combined with reduced shipments from New Zealand assisted the increase, with January to June total exports reaching 4,207 tonnes swt – up 12% year-on-year.
